Breeding

Jock River Kennels prides itself on being a responsible breeder of pure-bred Labrador Retriever puppies. We are committed to meeting the highest quality standards in terms of health, breeding and care.

A commitment to health

Jock River Kennels conducts hip x-rays, eye examinations, and genetic testing for each of the dogs involved in our breeding program. This is to ensure that they are not carrying the genes for some of the most frequent health conditions that tend to afflict the Labrador Retriever breed. Such issues include canine hip dysplasia, canine elbow, shoulder dysplasia, etc.

Not only do we care about the health of our females, but we also request the same health information for the sires. In doing so, we strive to achieve the greatest likelihood of a litter of healthy puppies.

Because the health of our puppies is important to us, each one receives its mandatory vaccinations before it goes to its new home. Puppies remain with the mother for a period of at least eight (8) weeks, during which they receive proper nutrition supplemented with vitamins and nutrients approved by an accredited veterinarian.

A commitment to responsible breeding

A dog does not enter the Jock River Kennels breeding program until it has achieved a reasonable age of maturity (usually around age 2). Furthermore, each female dog will deliver a maximum of four (4) litters. Once this limit has been reached, dogs are retired from the breeding program and become wonderful family pets.

A commitment to a strong bloodline

All dogs in the Jock River Kennels program are registered with the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) and, in some cases, with the American Kennel Club (as appropriate). As a result, all our puppies come with a certificate of registration with the CKC.

Our Labrador Retriever Breeding Program

Jock River Kennels currently has one female black pointing Labrador Retriever as part of its breeding program.

Meet ‘Lily’! Her full name is Jockrivers Lily Waterwalker. She was born on May 4, 2017.

She is our family pet as well as a fully trained hunting dog. She is an energetic retriever with particularly strong marking skills. She has a very warm and friendly temperament, making her very good with both adults and children.
